The Easy Way To Edit

This is a quick and short tutorial on how to edit the file…Yah, sure there are other ways but this is my way and it has always worked just fine.

Open a terminal session: Finder –> Applications –> Utilities –> Terminal (See Figure 1.)

Figure 1.

Change to super user by entering the following command: sudo -s and then enter your password and press enter again. (See Figure 2.)

Figure 2.

Change to the following directory: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration (cd /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration) then hit enter. (See Figure 3.)

Figure 3.

Edit the file by typing: (vi then hit enter. (See Figure 4.)

Figure 4.

Edit to start editing the file type “i” without the quotes and then start editing the <key></key> and <string></string> values… (See Figure 5.)

Figure 5.

The values you enter here are dependant on what you are trying to do but this tutorial gives you a quick “How-To” on edititng the file.

Oh… by the way, to save the file type: esc:x –> then hit the enter key. That’s the “esc” key + the colon key “:” + the “x” key…

p.s. Don’t forget to reboot to see your changes…  You should probably repair your permissions on your OSX volume but that’s for another tutorial.

Can you just open the Boot.plist with PlistEdit Pro, make changes, additions, etc. and save it?
